Members, we need your feedback on the proposed amendment to the NMAEA Bylaws. Let us know your thoughts about adding an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Before our January 15 Council meeting, please have a conversation with others in your division and get in touch with your Division Representative or any other Advisory Council Member or Executive Officer you feel comfortable with. This amendment would place the appointed Chair of the ED&I Committee on the Advisory Council to report to and advise elected Executive Officers on the Board of Directors. Only elected officers, not appointed council members, will be voting members of the BOD. Proposed amendment:
Article IV. Section 3, J. Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) Committee. The Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Committee shall be responsible for examining the philosophies and practices of the organization, for evaluating the equity of their impact, and for supporting more equitable outcomes for the organization. The committee’s work is to be based on information and advisement from the National Art Education Association and other evidence-based sources, providing information, analysis, purpose, and strategies for organizational and educational improvement. The Chairperson of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee shall have the authority to appoint committee members with the approval of the BOD.
