A snapshot of art education in New Mexico public schools, October 2020: That’s what this report of public information from the New Mexico Public Education Department provides. I thought you may find it intriguing, so I’m posting it—a list of all courses assigned to art educators in public school on the 40th day of the school year. I’ve sorted this long list for you from the courses most prevalent to those least frequent.
There are 2111 courses assigned to teachers this year called “Elementary Art” and that sounds really impressive. It’s about a third of all the art courses taught, and though it
’s likely they meet only once a week or even less often than that, still, what a lot of art class is going on here in NM! Can you picture that many art classes? Art teachers are amazing. It boggles the mind.
I challenge readers to find the most intriguing, interesting, or idiosyncratic title for an art class listed below. Isn't it exciting to think there's an Art Magnet 8 going on somewhere in our state? What is that? What about Art and Invention, or Natural Clay I, II, & III? Sign me up!
